Animal Rescue and Disaster Preparedness Training
June 28, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
This FREE full-day training will provide rescuers, officers and emergency personnel with additional skills to assist first responders with the care of our animals, people and community.
The 2019 flooding in the Midwest devastated farmland, businesses and homes. As Iowa communities in the western and eastern parts of our state work together to rebuild, the Humane Society of the United States is bringing their disaster training to Iowa to help prepare for potential extreme weather events in the future.
Topics to be presented:
Facility preparations – Ensuring your facility is prepared for a crisis is paramount when caring for animals. After this session, you will have a better understanding of sheltering in place or facility evacuations, and be provided with tools to develop a written plan for your facility.
ICS System – Understanding the incident command system, how to operate within that system during crisis and how to integrate into the emergency operations center.
Community Preparedness – Effective techniques for working with local authorities to incorporate pets into disaster plans, cooperation between agencies & the resources needed to coordinate lifesaving activities for animals.
Equine & Large Animal Preparedness – Be prepared to assist equines and livestock in the event of a disaster. There will be an hour long break for lunch, with many restaurants within a few miles.
