Our shared commitments

VegLife Des Moines is committed to providing a brave, welcoming, and harassment-free space for all participants, which includes all attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and volunteers. All participants are welcome, regardless of race, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, disability, physical appearance, body size, or dietary choices.

We expect respect for all human and non human animal participants. Participants should think about the shared space they’re in and the needs of others and adjust their behavior to meet the goals of a common good for the community, i.e., expressing what they want to say, but accepting and accommodating the needs of others. Practice empathy.

We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Racist or sexist language and imagery are not appropriate for any part of the event, including talks or exhibits. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event at the discretion of the event organizers.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to, verbal comments intended to humiliate or belittle, sexual or racist images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers will take action they deem appropriate, including expulsion from the event. Anyone being harassed, or notice that someone else is being harassed, or has any other concerns, should contact a member of the event team immediately or complete our Harassment Report Form.

The event team will support participants by providing escorts or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value everyone’s participation.
