Vigil for Pigs – In Memory of Regan Russell
July 3, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Please join us for a vigil honoring our fallen comrade, Regan Russell. 🕯
Regan was fatally struck by a truck driver in front of Fearman’s Pork, an enormous killing factory in Ontario, Canada, whilst attending a vigil on Friday, June 19th. Witnesses protesting alongside Regan say she was killed whilst attempting to give pigs water after being transported in extreme heat.
“She was a warrior, a peace maker: just like all of us. She died selflessly fighting for a cause that is dear to our hearts.”
Regan had been an animal advocate since 1979, attended vigils weekly for years, and cared deeply about justice for other animals and humans alike. She marched in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement just days before she was killed.
“Regan was a kind, elegant, strong, and courageous person. She was a mentor to others, and she always did activism with kindness in her heart.” —Anita Krajnc
Des Moines Animal Allies extends our deepest condolences to the Toronto Pig Save community, as well as Regan’s friends and family, and the entire Toronto vegan community. Our hearts are with you all. ♥️
This Friday, 7/3, we will honor Regan’s life and everything she stood for by holding a socially-distanced vigil outside Pine Ridge Farms for the pigs who are mercilessly killed there daily. We will be requiring masks for this event. Flowers and signs are encouraged but not required. We’ll post more details throughout the week, please stay tuned.
Do as Regan did. Protect the vulnerable. Take a stand against injustice. 🐖 #SavePigsForRegan
